DDW: Trace of Dinner by Zizi Mitrou

A Trace of Dinner explores natural glazes made from specific restaurant waste—bones, shells, wine bottles, charcoal—sourced locally, alongside clay from Tegelen, Netherlands. I first conducted material research to form glazes from these materials, creating ash from the bones and applying the technique of ash glazing, later used on three tableware sets, one for each restaurant I worked with. The project was executed in collaboration with three restaurants, each of them producing their own types of waste. The resulting palette, from turquoise and rust to speckled green and brown, is linked only to each restaurant’s choices, since no pigment material is added.
